Al-Hamad reviews the development plans for the Commercial Arbitration Center for Gulf Countries.

Asharqia Chamber organized its monthly Tuesday meeting for the business sector, which hosted the Secretary-General of the Commercial Arbitration Center for the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries, Dr. Kamal bin Abdullah Al Hamad.

Al Hamad spoke during the meeting held at the Chamber's headquarters on the evening of Tuesday, February 6, 2024, chaired by the Chamber's Secretary-General, Abdulrahman bin Abdullah Al Wabel, about the center's new plans and directions for the upcoming period. He highlighted several developmental measures that the center will undergo aimed at improving the services provided to its target audience, in addition to programs aimed at developing national legal professionals and experts in the sector.

Regarding specialized programs, Al Hamad mentioned that the center offers the International Fellowship Program in Arbitration and the qualification of arbitrators, the first of its kind in the Arab world and regionally. He noted that the program will be implemented with a select group of accredited trainers and lecturers who have the highest academic and professional qualifications in the field of arbitration.

The Secretary-General of the Commercial Arbitration Center stated that the Fellowship Program is an international, comprehensive qualification program accredited by the center, through which the center reflects its role in spreading the culture of arbitration in line with its modern vision and directions. It is characterized by its inclusivity and encompasses multiple stages including self-study, discussion sessions, and workshops rich in information, knowledge, and practical skills necessary for managing international arbitration cases and drafting their awards.

The program includes a set of objectives, the most prominent of which are: understanding the principles and general principles upon which the law is based and the rights in general that the arbitrator needs to perform his task, familiarizing oneself with the legal framework, systems, and procedural rules governing arbitration, developing skills in drafting arbitration clauses, agreements, and awards, in addition to enhancing the concept of arbitration in investment disputes and international contracts.

The program also consists of 8 levels held remotely in the evening over a period of 3 months. Those who successfully complete the program are entitled to an internationally accredited Fellowship certificate issued by the Commercial Arbitration Center for the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries, and they are recognized as affiliates of the center, with the possibility of transferring to the professional program "Arbitration Session Management," which qualifies for inclusion in the center's list of accredited arbitrators.
